Game On

He crosses the 30, down to the 20, across the 10 and . . . TOUCHDOWN! The crowd goes wild, slapping high fives and gulping beers. With all the feel of being at the big game, the Pier’s newest sports bar creates a stadium atmosphere without bearing the weather of football season.

The tunnel entryway, sound system, big-screen televisions and lighting immediately drop you into action that packs every inch of Game On. Not a typical local sports bar, Game On houses 90 high-definition televisions, a 100-foot bar, private seating and a mechanical bull.

Game On features a stadium-caliber technical system constantly operated by an entertainment director who handles lighting, sound and visual. Game On is home to $750,000 worth of audio and video equipment.

Customers entering Game On are immediately struck by the five 8-foot by 11-foot screens surrounding 19 plasma TVs atop the central bar. With NFL, ESPN, MLB, NBA and NHL television packages, fans can watch up to 65 different games at once. Each of the bar’s 90 televisions can be specifically programmed to a patron’s request.

A sound system fit for a nightclub creates an incredible atmosphere, for both games and entertainment; the audio capabilities vibrate the 12,000 square foot room. Six audio channels can be aired simultaneously throughout the different bar areas.

While Game On showcases dozens of the day’s games, it never airs commercials, instead filling downtime with fight songs and music to keep the crowd energized.

Feeling the Energy

One of the greatest things about the design is not only the televisions but that you feed off the energy in the bar,” said Lyons Group Senior Vice President Eric Aulback. “We play the Eagles fight songs when they score and everyone chants along.”

No bar is complete without booze. With more than 140 feet of bar space in two locations, Game On embraces the local element by providing affordable drinks, with over 20 beer varieties. Draft Miller Light and Yuengling are only $4 while premium and bottled beers such as Red Stripe, Michelob Ultra, Budweiser and Coors run $5-$6. Drink specials are still in the works; however, a typical mixed drink averages $7-$8, making it easy to enjoy the games barside without breaking the bank.

Score some half-time munchies with an extensive menu highlighting regional food specialties such as hometown Philly Cheesesteak, New Orleans “Po Boy” sandwiches and Memphis-style BBQ Baby Back Ribs. Combining tailgating favorites with culinary best, Game On offers something for every craving to fill patrons through overtime and extra innings. Just when you thought you’d heard all that Game On has to offer, they throw in a mechanical bull, for free. Patrons get a chance to see how long they can hang on as the bull bucks and spins. Operated during games, weekends and evenings, the mechanical bull is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Straddle the real cow skin and strap in for the ride as the steer tosses and turns with eyes that light and an airy cushion to break the fall. Bull riding is entirely free of charge. Riders, however, must sign a waiver to participate.

“The same vibe that’s at the game is in here,” said bar manager Quinn Harbright. “It’s like a giant tailgate party, in a bar.”

Game On has free wireless access and plans to add wireless Xbox and Playstation games for tournaments. Open from 11:30 a.m. to 3 a.m. Sunday through Thursday and Friday and Saturdays from 10:30 a.m. until 4 a.m., Game On is the place to be if you can’t be at the big game.

Sky’s The Limit

If you don’t want to enjoy the game from the “stands,” Game On offers private SkyBoxes perfect for parties, special occasions or just a fun night out. The rents for these private areas range from $500 for an eight-person box to a $1,250 box which seats 22. The money put down for SkyBox rental is directed towards your food and beverage bill. Designed to feel like a stadium suite, the Skybox includes private television and audio, waitress, security, and refrigerator. Guests can pre-order food and beverages for their Skybox to jump-start the fun and excitement.
