Video Game Review

Finally, a strategy-based war game that doesn’t take place during World War II. Fans of the real-time strategy series “Command and Conquer” will recognize the latest release, as Electronic Arts delivers

Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

The game takes place 40 years in the future, when the planet is infested with a mysterious crystalline mineral named Tiberium. Tiberium has ravished most of the Earth, with the few inhabitable parts of the planet protected by the Global Defense Initiative (GDI). The brief peace is broken, though, as the main satellite of GDI is destroyed by a nuclear missile launched by the Brotherhood of NOD, a religious faction based around Tiberium who have their own plans for a holy future.

Players must now go through the third Tiberium war in the “Command and Conquer” series as GDI faces off with NOD to control the the planet.

Tiberium Wars is unique in that it is a real-time strategy war game, meaning that players construct and defend bases, harvest Tiberium, and launch attacks in real time. You can’t let your guard down for even a second; a single distraction could mean the end of your base.

The game also contains a new feature not seen in any of the other “Command and Conquer” games: a third army. Gamers must also face off against the bug-like alien source of the Tiberium, named the Scrin. The Scrin have joined in the battle as they try to harvest the precious Tiberium covering the planet.

In addition to being a great game on the PC,

Tiberium Wars is one of the few real-time strategy games available for the Xbox 360. You’re guaranteed a great game on either platform; just don’t play so much that you start to think Tiberium is actually a real mineral. Then again, if you do see random green crystals growing outside, it may not hurt to save a few.
