Pennsylvania lawmaker to introduce tables
One of Pennsylvania’s leading legislators is introducing a bill that would legalize blackjack and roulette at the state’s 14 gaming venues, although few give it hope of passing.
State House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese is introducing the measure, calling it the “second chapter” of Pennsylvania gaming, in response to the passage of table games in neighboring West Virginia, which is about to hold local-option votes on adding tables to that state’s four
racinos.
Only a few months ago, Governor Ed Rendell said he will not approve table games until all 14 slot venues in the state have been operating for at least a year. DeWeese said last month that he is not counting out support from Rendell, noting that approval of table games within the next couple of years could be “an electric capstone on (Rendell’s) eight-year regime.”
In June, Rendell called the legislation “way premature,” and predicted that table games are not likely to be passed in Pennsylvania before the end of his term in 2011.
