Looney Tunes

If you’re looking for a raunchy, yet cleverly humorous night, Stephen Lynch will be perfect at Borgata’s Music Box January 12 and 13.

Known for the ability to mix comedy and music, the actor, musician and comedian came to the country’s attention when he received a Tony Award nod for Best Performance—Leading Actor in a Musical, for his role in Broadway’s short-lived version of The Wedding Singer, in which Lynch played the character created by Adam Sandler in the hit movie of the same name.

The Pennsylvania native actually cites musicians like Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell as his main influences, rather than comedians. He became well-known on the New York comedy circuit in the mid ’90s, becoming a regular on the Opie and Anthony radio show. Because of his multi-faceted act, he was able to escape the comedy club routine and graduate to bigger venues like the Kennedy Center and the House of Blues, eventually gaining national exposure in his Comedy Central Presents special in 2000, which was one of the highest-rated programs in the network’s history at the time.

His last album of new material was 2005’s The Craig Machine. His latest CD is Cleanest Hits. The record was produced to offer at performances of The Wedding Singer and features no new material, but a collection of Lynch’s songs with all of the curse words removed.

Stephen Lynch performs 9 p.m. January 12 and 13 at Borgata’s Music Box. Tickets are $29.50.
