Jitney, Part 2

The Atlantic City Jitney Association, which has been up in arms over Harrah’s Entertainment instituting proprietary shuttle service to and from Harrah’s-owned hotels in Atlantic City, is planning on putting up some competition with free jitney service for customers of two non-Harrah’s hotels—Resorts and the Atlantic City Hilton.
Late last month, Resorts International Holdings announced a strategic partnership with the association, and starting January 1, Hilton and Resorts qualified players who earn at least one point on the Resorts Destination Casino Club card (the common player’s club for the two casinos) will receive a free jitney pass.
“We're proud to become a part of the fine jitney tradition, a mainstay since 1915,” said Tony Rodio, regional president of the Resorts and Hilton casinos. “As we were weighing our options for offering our players a convenient way to travel between Resorts and Hilton, we had a choice to make. But the decision for us was an obvious one. We chose to embrace the community, its people, and its history. We chose to partner with the Jitney Association.”
Rodio added that the service will benefit players at both properties by making it easy to shuttle between the two, and will fit in well with the company’s cross-marketing of the resources at the casinos, on opposite ends of the Boardwalk.
In connection with the new partnership, 50 jitneys are being fitted with special advertising on the inside and outside to advertise the program to the public.
“Our organization is thrilled by this opportunity,” commented Manny Mathioudakis, president of the Atlantic City Jitney Association. “It is refreshing to see that Resorts and Hilton are such noble corporate citizens, best exampled by their ability to reach out and work with us.”
