Three Atlantic City properties ushered in a triple shot of new nightlife in late July, with help from the Sopranos. Borgata, Trump Taj Mahal and Resorts unveiled mur.mur, Ego and Showtime Tabou, respectively, three distinct clubs that add flair to the city’s thriving after-hours scene.
Was it a success? Fuh-get about it. The Sopranos’ Michael Imperioli (Christopher) and John Ventimiglia (Artie Bucco) gave Ego instant visibility when they hosted the opening. They talked to the crowd, posed for pictures and signed autographs.
As the crowning finale to its impressive expansion Borgata opened mur.mur, and party-goers have been steadily flocking to this modern dance club. Jamie-Lynn Sigler, aka Meadow Soprano, made a special appearance at the unveiling. Mur.mur also held a summer splashdown hosted by Elite Models.
Resorts offered a different twist with Showtime Tabou, which transforms from a restaurant to a nightclub, with a good dose of live caberet. (See story on pg. 37.)
While each establishment is impressive in its own right, the collective opening speaks volumes about the new Atlantic City. Nightclub owners seemed to be listening to their clientele. The Sound of Philadelphia at Tropicana’s Quarter recently added a more affordable and casual menu and re-named itself Philly Bistro at TSOP. Cuba Libre, also at the Quarter, now offers six varieties of its own rum produced in South America. Both 32º Lux Lounge, which welcomed Arturo Gatti after his last fight, and The Foundation Room at House of Blues, which hosted an LL Cool J after-concert bash, do their best to cater to a celebrity crowd. Each venue offers its patrons a unique experience.
