Get Up and Out

It’s easy to get lost in the daily routine of life. Isn’t it time you had a little “me” time to explore the unfamiliar, learn a new skill or taste something different?

To get you into the swing of things, learn to play a game that teaches discipline and patience.. A visit to the Greater Atlantic City Golf Association website, www.gacga.com, will give you easy access to the many courses that offer lessons. Click on LESSONS on the homepage and you’ll discover that Blue Heron Pines has a learning center that offers instruction for golfers of all skill levels under the direction of golf pro Bob Lennon. Golf Magazine and Golf Digest named him Best in Region in 2005. The learning center has Friday clinics starting at 4 p.m., which includes nine holes, a golf cart, golf tips and a free appetizer for $35. For more information, call 609-965-1800 ext. 2.

At the Faldo Golf Institute at Seaview Marriott & Spa in Galloway, you can literally learn from a master. Nick Faldo, who has won three Masters and three British Opens in a long and incredible career, will teach you how to avoid slicing your shot into a bunker. He offers private lessons, group clinics, two- and three-day courses and even three-hour sessions. Rates range from $25 for a clinic to $995 for a three-day improvement school. For more information, call 888-GO FALDO.

From pristine greens to blue water, ride the waves with the help of Atlantic City Surfing Club. Camp Director Tom Forkin, a former two-time NSSA National Team member and East Coast champion with over 30 years surfing experience, is partnering with Billabong-USA to offer comprehensive surfing classes from beginners to advanced levels. The camp is open to school-age children as well as adults. Classes are held in front of the Hilton and are offered for groups or individuals. For more information, call 609-271-6937 or visit www.surfingac.com.

Another choice for learning to ride the waves is the Atlantic Surf School. Premier surfing lessons take place on the beaches of Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport from principal instructors Don Milora and Jason Levy, who have 40 years of surfing experience between them.

You’ll learn the fundamentals of surfing in one day, including safety issues. Lessons come in two-hour increments from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. For more information, call 609-517-5069 or log on to www.atlanticsurfsessions.com.

If vino whets your whistle, both Balic Winery in Mays Landing and Renault Winery in Egg Harbor City offer wine tasting along with vineyard tours. Both wineries offer tours and tastings seven days a week with no reservation needed. For more information, visit www.balicwinery.com or www.renaultwinery.com.

It may not be the first place you think of for workshops or instruction, but the Noyes Museum of Art in Oceanville has a calendar packed with programs for both children and adults. Learn to breathe deeply, relax and reduce stress with “No Sweat Yoga” with Naida Burgess on May 2, 9, 17, 24, 31, and continuing in June. Sessions are from 12 noon to 1 p.m. and are $12 per class for non-members or $60 for six classes.

Registration deadline is 24 hours before class. On Saturday, May 19 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon there is an Adult Photography Workshop with Annemarie Tarsitano. Bring your digital or film camera and learn about using angles, perspective, light and shadow, and more during a field trip around the museum.

Fee is $40 for non-members and registration deadline is Thursday, May 17. For more information, visit www.noyesmuseum.org.
